2005 Summer Seminar Registration

Objectivism in Theory and Practice

Conference Fee

Early Registration (received by May 2, 2005): $845 per person includes your choice from over 70 hours of scheduled presentations, participant sponsored sessions, Seminar materials, lunch on Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, Thursday & Friday, coffee breaks, the opening cookout, and the closing banquet and dance. The fee increases to $985 on May 3. All registrations must be received by June 20.

Price per day: If you are unable to attend for the full week, there is a daily rate available so that you can tailor the seminar to fit your schedule. The $160 daily fee includes all scheduled presentations, participant sponsored sessions, seminar materials, lunch, and coffee breaks that day. On Friday, the daily fee of $185 includes the closing banquet and dance that evening.

The opening cookout on Saturday, July 9 is $40. The Wednesday morning class is $50. If you would like to attend only the closing banquet and dance on Friday, July 16, the price is $65.

Students: Full-time students and recent graduates (those who graduated from a full-time program in 2003 or later) may attend the Seminar at the reduced fee of $300. Student scholarships are available to cover registration and/or room and board expenses.

Another option for reduced fees is to work at the seminar as a conference assistant. Contact the Center at 1-800-374-1776 or email the conference director for a conference assistant application. Please apply by May 16.

Accommodation and Meal Plans

Charges for accommodation and meals as described below are not included in the basic conference fee. (That fee does cover lunch on Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday, and the Saturday and Friday dinners.)

Meals:Breakfast and dinner are NOT included in the conference fee above. A meal package is available that covers breakfast, Sunday through Saturday, and dinner, Sunday, Monday, Tuesday and Thursday. The price for this package is $82.

On-Campus Accommodations: Arrangements for on-campus accommodations can be made through the Center until June 20. Accommodations for seven nights (Saturday night through Friday night inclusive) are available in the College Park Hall Residence and Conference Center. Each room is air-conditioned and has a private bath. Participants with laptops that have an ethernet card and cable can simply plug into the data ports that exist in each bedroom. There is no daily or weekly cleaning service. There is a large common area on each floor with a television, and small refrigerator. The building has a fitness room with a variety of cardio equipment and a universal weight-training machine. There is also a game room that features a large TV, pool table, ping-pong and foosball. There are coin operated laundry facilities in the building.

Please keep in mind that the number of double rooms available is limited, and will be made available on a first-come, first-served basis.

Pricing: Single: $295 Extended stay option: $40 per night. Double: $260 per person. Extended stay: $35 person/night.

Off Campus Accommodations: There are two hotels that are located approximately ¼ mile from campus (a 5 minute walk):
Holiday Inn of America. Phone: 518-393-4141. Features: restaurant, cocktail lounge, and indoor pool.
Days Inn. Phone: 518-370-3297. Features: restaurants nearby, continental breakfast.

Cancellation Policy

Written cancellation requests received by May 2, 2005, will receive a full refund; those received by June 1, 2004, will receive a 60% refund. All charges are non-refundable after June 1.

Advanced Seminar and Student Scholarship

Applications Deadlines: Advanced Seminar: May 30, 2005. Scholarships: inquire. Scholarships funds may still be available. To apply, please register online, and answer the following questions in an email to the conference director.

1. Please outline your formal educational background, areas of concentration, and degrees obtained or expected completion dates.

2. Please describe the extent of your familiarity with Objectivism, including the major works you've read & courses you've taken.

3. Please describe any involvement you have had in the Objectivist movement, including attendance at conferences and participation in local discussion groups, Internet newsgroups, e-mail lists, etc.

4. Please include your age and areas of scholarly interest.

Additional questions for student scholarship applicants only:

S1. Are you requesting a tuition waiver or a full scholarship inclusive of room and board? Please explain your need for this support in order to attend the Seminar.

S2. What academic courses have you taken in subjects relevant to the Summer Seminar program? Please give us a brief list (no more than ten), starting with the most advanced courses and including your grade in each course (or a school transcript).

S3. Which sessions on the Summer Seminar program are of greatest interest to you? Please list no more than four.

S4. Have you done any writing or speaking on Ayn Rand or Objectivism? If so, please describe.

S5. Please write a brief statement (of approximately 200 words) describing your career goals.
