Ed Hudgins Reports from the Front, March 2004

One of the formats that The Objectivist Center's Washington director, Ed Hudgins, uses most frequently to comment on cultural and political matters is his "Report from the Front," which he writes approximately every week. Those wishings to receive Hudgins's Reports by e-mail may sign up at /email_updates.asp#news

Following is a list of the dispatches Hudgins has penned since Logbook last reported on them.

"Special Interests or the Special Use of Force?" The presidential candidates' denunciations of special interests is deeply hypocritical and ignores the truth that government creates these special interests.

"Happy Birthday, George Washington!" Washington's moral character was the source of his achievements.

"Happy Birthday, Ronald Reagan!" Hudgins pays tribute to the former president on his 93rd birthday.

"The Assault on Science Spreads." Proposed curriculum guidelines for Georgia suggest that the word "evolution" not be used.

"Grand Canyon-Sized Silliness." A bookstore at the Grand Canyon, run by the National Park Service, sells a work that presents a creationist view of the canyon's formation.

"Principles versus Sentiments in the State of the Union Address." "Compassionate" emotions undermine pro-freedom principles in the president's speech.

"Can a Return to the Moon Revive the Spirit of Apollo?" Private ventures in space could ignite the human spirit in ways that bureaucratic boondoggles never will.

"A Trial for Saddam Hussein." The lessons of Saddam's trial could be as critical as his capture.

"The Englishwoman and the Naughty School." A socialist MP sends her children to private school—but declares it is morally wrong.
